Dar Leone, West African textiles reimagined

What Dar Leone makes is immediately warm. Lampshades in cerise and mustard, cushions in geometric patterns drawn from Freetown's metalwork gates, bone china printed with motifs from Sierra Leonean country cloth. The references are specific. The palette is unexpected. Together they produce something that feels both rooted and entirely contemporary.
Founded by Isatu Funna in London, the studio reimagines West African textiles in tones you wouldn't necessarily associate with the source material — and that distance is where the interest lives. The objects carry their references lightly.
Production is mostly local: wallpaper printed in Yorkshire, fine bone china made in Stoke-on-Trent. The craft traditions are West African. The objects are made for any room, anywhere.
